Hundreds of thousands of Palestinian children have resumed face-to-face learning in Gaza, often in tents, damaged buildings and temporary education centres.

UNICEF says 98% of Gaza’s schools have been damaged or destroyed. Education officials expect at least 540,000 pupils to receive some form of in-person teaching during the 2026–27 academic year, while online learning will continue for those unable to attend.

Basic supplies remain unaffordable for many families. Reuters reported that a notebook previously costing three shekels now sells for about fifteen.
